CRREO and League of Women Voters to sponsor debate on redistricting amendment

The Center for Research, Regional Education and Outreach (CRREO) at SUNY New Paltz, in conjunction with the League of Women Voters of the Mid-Hudson Region, will sponsor a debate on revising the redistricting process, known as Proposal 1, on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 7 p.m., at Deyo Hall in New Paltz.

If approved, the proposal, to be featured on the Nov. 4, 2014,ballot, would create a redistricting commission to establish state senate, assembly and congressional districts in New York.

Dick Dadey, executive director of Citizens Union, will speak for the plan, while Dr. Gerald Benjamin, director of New Paltz’s Center for Research, Regional Education and Outreach and associate vice president for regional engagement, will speak against the amendment.

According to Benjamin, Dadey,  who is a good friend of Benjamin’s, is a leading voice for governmental reform in New York.

The event is free and open to the public.
