With evidence of increased transmissibility with the Omicron variant of COVID-19, SUNY New Paltz is encouraging all students, faculty, staff and visitors to upgrade their mask status ahead of the spring 2022 semester.

Multi-layer masks that fit snugly and fully cover your nose and mouth, such as N95 and KN95 masks, offer the best protection against the new variant. The College joins the CDC and other health experts in recommending these kinds of masks for all members of our community.

Please do not use bandanas because they do not close below the chin, and do not use face shields by themselves. Face shields with a mask are acceptable.

As a reminder: The College is requiring everyone to be masked indoors while on campus during the spring 2022 semester, regardless of vaccination status.

There are limited exceptions including when employees are alone in private, closed offices and other similar spaces, and when students who live on campus are in their rooms or suites.

The College has a limited number of N95 masks that are available for faculty and staff to pick up in the Mail Room while supply lasts.
