Move-in tips and reminders for students living on campus in fall 2021

The fall semester is almost here, and the Department of Residence Life is excited to welcome students into their campus homes!

Whether you’re a new student living on campus for the first time, or a returning resident, we wanted to put together a few reminders to make sure you have a smooth check-in experience.

A more detailed move-in guide, which will include an updated prohibited items list, will be sent out and posted to the Residence Life website by Aug. 6.

COVID-19 vaccines are REQUIRED for resident students!

As previously announced, all SUNY New Paltz students who intend to live in on-campus housing during the fall 2021 semester must show proof of vaccination before moving in, with limited medical and religious exemptions.

Please read the full announcement carefully to make sure you’re in compliance with the resident vaccination policy. Thank you!

New residents will get their room and roommate assignments on Aug. 10

All first-year and transfer students will receive an email with their room and roommate assignments on Aug. 10. This email will include instructions on how to access your roommate’s name, phone number and school email, provided they gave us permission to release that information when they submitted the Residence Hall License.

Move-in will take place on Aug. 19, 20 & 22, with no early dates

The College will get back to a normal move-in schedule for fall 2021, with first-year and transfer students moving in on Aug. 19.

We’re also adding a special move-in time on Aug. 20 for sophomores, to accommodate the many students who attended New Paltz last year but were unable to live on campus during the pandemic. A sophomore welcome and transition experience will be offered prior to the first day of classes.

There will not be any early drop-off days this semester, as this practice is no longer needed due to the end of certain COVID-19 restrictions.

Students will be able to move their belongings into their rooms with assistance from family members, friends or other helpers.

Students who are campus employees or members of organizations that need to arrive earlier will be notified of their move-in dates and times by their department.

Student athletes who need to arrive earlier will be notified by their coach. Please be advised that only some teams arrive early. If you are not sure whether your team needs to arrive early, please check with your coach.

The full move-in schedule is as follows:

Thursday, Aug. 19, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. – 11 p.m.
First-year students
New transfer students

Friday, Aug. 20, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Sophomores

Sunday, Aug. 22, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. – 11 p.m.
All other resident students

Move-in help

Friends and family members are welcome to assist you during your Move-in Day. They must wear a mask at all times while inside the residence hall (e.g., hallways, stairwells, elevators, bathrooms, and bedrooms).

Residence Hall License Addendum

All students living on campus are required to read, sign and submit a Residence Hall License Addendum on my.newpaltz.edu before move-in. The Addendum includes agreements to abide by new and updated policies related to COVID-19.

The Addendum will be posted soon, and we’ll send you an email to let you know when it’s available.

What to bring/Prohibited items

Please do not make any major purchases prior to August.

Over the past several years, fire and health and safety regulations for state-owned and operated facilities, like state college residence halls, have gone through many changes to help ensure the safety of everyone living and working in those facilities.

Our Fire, Health, Safety Regulations, and Prohibited Items List is updated each summer (or when necessary), as new guidelines and items are added by the state, and/or by the Environmental Health & Safety Office.

You will receive an updated version of the Fire, Health, Safety Regulations, and Prohibited Items List, as well as a Packing List highlighting items you should consider bringing, the first week of August.

Additional info for new students

We emailed general information to all new first-year and transfer students who had paid a room deposit by May 15, and subsequently, within 7-10 days to students who paid the Advance Room Deposit after May 15. We are aware that some students did not see the email, so we are including the information below:

First-Year Student On-Campus Housing Information Email

Transfer Student On-Campus Housing Information Email

As previously stated, you will be receiving further updates regarding opening, fire, health and safety regulations, a packing list, the License Addendum and if necessary, any new guidelines related to COVID-19. Please check your New Paltz email frequently between now and your move-in day.
