It is with sadness that the College shares news of the death of Daisy Simmons, who worked for many years in the Center for International Programs. Simmons passed away peacefully on July 9, 2021, at the age of 86.
Simmons worked for more than 20 years as an office assistant in the Center for International Programs, where she was known as a fabulous colleague and a supportive ally for international students adjusting to their first experiences in the United States.
“Daisy and I worked together for almost two decades,” said Bruce Sillner, former dean of the Center for International Programs. “She was the first to greet our many international visitors and was adept at making them feel welcome. She developed close and lasting bonds with many student assistants and international students and served as their grandmother away from home.”
“Daisy was a wonderful colleague, friend, confidante and surrogate mother,” said Christian Wilwohl, former director of study abroad and current dean of global education at Providence College in Rhode Island. “She was kind, vibrant and humorous and enjoyed working with her CIP colleagues and students. That’s how I’ll remember her.”
