Retirement Boot Camp: Workshops to help you plan ahead

Join the Office of Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion this summer for Retirement Boot Camp: a series of informative workshops offering valuable tools for how you think about and plan for retirement.

These sessions are tailored for New Paltz faculty and staff who may be within three years of retirement.

During the week of June 21 – 25 (and one additional session on June 30), we’ll offer support and resources to help make sure you’re informed about your options and ready to thrive in retirement.

Staying Active in Retirement
Monday, June 21, 2 – 3 p.m.

Are you interested in social, creative, intellectual, volunteer, or athletic pursuits? Have you always wanted to travel? Will retirement give you an opportunity to spend more time with family or friends?

In this Retirement Ready session, we’ll begin to explore some of the many options for staying active in retirement. This will include an exploration of continuing education programs in the region, as well as information on researching learning opportunities no matter where you are living.

This session is helpful for anyone who is thinking about retirement and looking for ways to stay intellectually and socially engaged. It is open to all campus faculty and staff.

Guaranteed Benefits of the NYS Teachers Retirement System (TRS)

Even in turbulent economic times, you can achieve future financial strength and security by building a strong pension at NYSTRS.

This presentation will provide an overview of the important benefits NYSTRS provides, with an emphasis on issues pertaining to members approaching retirement. Highlights include a review of the fundamental pension components such as service credit and final average salary, key retirement thresholds to reach for, the tools needed to maximize these benefits, retirement benefit options and much more.

You’ll leave our meeting with a handle on what’s needed to plan wisely on your road to retirement, as well as what costly errors to avoid along the way.

 

Paying for Your Benefits in Retirement / Medicare

This session will discuss health care benefits coverage in retirement, including how accrued Sick Leave time can help pay for your coverage, and information about Medicare coverage and payments.

Participants are asked to review several short NYSHIP information videos prior to attending; links to online videos will be provided upon registration.

 

Phased Retirement Information Session

Full-time MC and UUP-represented professionals who have at least 10 years of full-time consecutive SUNY service and who are retirement-eligible may now participate in the Phased Retirement program.

Full-time tenure-line faculty and full-time lecturers with at least 10 years of consecutive SUNY service and who are retirement-eligible may participate in the Phased Retirement Program.

This information session will review the eligibility requirements, program details, and the process to participate in the program.

 

Paying Yourself: Income Options in Retirement
