Employee trainings from the Office of Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion: June 2021

The Office of Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion will offer the following trainings and workshops in the coming weeks. Each of these sessions is open to all members of the campus community unless otherwise noted, though they are designed primarily to support the development needs and interests of faculty and staff.

Hosting Meetings in Teams: Monday, June 7, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Description: This workshop is an introduction to the meeting and collaboration tools within Teams. We will explore features and tools within Teams that make quick connections and meetings more efficient and interactive. We will also discuss how using Teams is different from using Webex or other hosting and collaboration platforms.

You do not need a Teams site or experience using Teams to attend this workshop. This workshop is the first of a multi-part series on Teams that will be offered across the summer.

Open to all members of the campus community with little or no experience using Microsoft Teams. Presented via Webex; access information will be provided with registration confirmation.

 

Defining Your Operational Needs: Tuesday, June 8, 2 – 3 p.m.

Description: This workshop will help supervisors reflect on the work of their office to define their operational needs. The session will support supervisors in creating operational priority plans to be better equipped to make decisions and communicate expectations to staff.

This workshop will only be open to individuals who have supervision responsibilities for professional and staff positions on campus.

It is recommended that attendees also plan to join the How to Design Staffing Plans workshop on June 14 (see below for more information about that session).

 

Organizing Virtual Files: Thursday, June 10, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Description: The transition to more virtual files and paperless processes puts pressure on how we track, share and maintain those files. In this workshop we will discuss best practices for designing organizational systems for virtual files, including how this process is different from using physical files.

This workshop will include information on individual file organization as well as how to collaboratively create effective shared file systems in a virtual environment.

This workshop is particularly helpful for groups who are preparing to move more of their work into SharePoint or Teams, but is open to all members of the campus community.

How to Design Staffing Plans: Monday, June 14, 2 – 4 p.m.

Description: This workshop will provide supervisors with a process for reviewing performance programs and job standards, analyzing department operational needs, and limitations of their current context to create a framework for designing their office staffing plan. The information provided will be helpful for planning a return to working on campus as well as navigating vacancies or leaves.

This workshop will only be open to individuals who have supervision responsibilities for professional and staff positions on campus.

 

Introduction to OneDrive: Tuesday, June 15, 2 – 3 p.m.

Description: This session is an introduction to using OneDrive to organize, store, and share files and folders. By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Know how to access OneDrive and understand when and why to use it.
  • Understand the different elements of the OneDrive screen; how to modify the layout; how to create folders; and how to upload, download and move files within OneDrive.
  • Know several ways of sharing files, and best practices for doing so.

Description: This session is an introduction to the basics of using SharePoint for team collaboration. By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Know how create and organize folders within a SharePoint site.
  • Know how to organize, upload and download files.

Supporting Your Return to Campus – Thursday, June 24, 2 – 3 p.m.

Description: This session will focus on the emotional labor of preparing to return to work. We will cover the steps you can take to equip yourself for the shift in context that will come with returning to work, resources for emotional support, and where to find information.
