Open mic, trivia and more: Oktoberfest 2020 comes to New Paltz, Oct. 19 – 22!

Oktoberfest returns to the SUNY New Paltz campus beginning next Monday, Oct. 19, with a series of daily events designed to raise awareness about alcohol and substance abuse.

The NP SAFE Coalition and the Center for Student Media are joining forces to present a slate of events for National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week 2020.

Students will have an opportunity to showcase their talent at a virtual open mic night, go head-to-head in trivia on Kahoot, and even enjoy a midweek pick-me-up in the form of a guided relaxation.

The full program includes events every day from Oct. 19 – 22:

  • Bubble Car Brain Busters, Monday, Oct. 19, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Spot the decorated Bubble Car on campus, and you compete for prizes! We’ll be driving around for a few hours mid-day, challenging students with a socially distant trivia game.
Here’s your first hint: Look for us on Parker Quad around 11:30, and near Peregrine after noon!
  • Virtual Open Mic Night, Tuesday, Oct. 20, 7 p.m.
Find your audience and let your creativity shine! Whether you’re into music, poetry, spoken word or another form of expression, all are welcome to join this artists’ showcase

  • Midweek Meditation Break, Wednesday, Oct. 21, 12 – 1 p.m.
Special guests from the Music Therapy graduate program will lead a guided relaxation on Zoom, to help you reset and refresh yourself to get through the week.
  • Kahoot Trivia Night, Thursday, Oct. 22, 6 p.m.
Let the games begin! Kahoot is one of our favorite quiz apps, and the more people who play the more fun we have! Download the app before we begin, and come ready to win some fabulous prizes.
