The Sojourner Truth Library invites all students, faculty and staff to get involved with the global effort to make scholarship and other information more accessible during International Open Access Week, Oct. 19-25.
Open Access may be a relatively new concept for some members of our community, but it’s gaining momentum as one of the most important steps institutions can take to remove barriers to information.
Open Access resources tend to be digital, online and free of copyright and licensing restrictions, and while it typically refers to scholarly journal articles, the practice has expanded to include books, data sets and theses and dissertations.
The theme of this year’s International Open Access Week is “Open with Purpose: Taking Action to Build Structural Equity and Inclusion.” New Paltz students and faculty can participate by attending free online events and joining global discussions using the link above.
They can also get involved in our own local effort to develop an Open Access Scholarship and Creative Works Repository Policy, a new directive from SUNY for all campuses within the system.
