What New Paltz students need to know about voting in the June 23 primary

Students who are interested in voting in the Presidential and Federal Primary on June 23, 2020, should review the following information carefully to ensure their access to the ballot next month.

For the purposes of this message, student voters are separated into two categories:

  • Students who maintain voter eligibility at their (off-campus) hometown addresses
  • Students whose local college address is their designated address for voter registration

If you are unsure of your voter registration status, you may visit https://voterlookup.elections.ny.gov/ to confirm your designated address and other information.

Information for students who maintain voter eligibility at their hometown addresses

If you maintain voter eligibility in your hometown, be advised you will need to check the resources of your local county board of elections. Links to your county board can be found at https://www.elections.ny.gov/CountyBoards.html.

Information for students who are registered to vote at their local New Paltz address

Students who are registered as a Democrat or Republican in Ulster County will be eligible to vote in the Primary Election.

Those who are registered to vote in Ulster County but will be away from Ulster County on June 23 are eligible to vote via absentee ballot.

Absentee ballots must be requested via an absentee ballot application. Governor Cuomo has required that all eligible voters receive an absentee ballot application, but applications mailed to New Paltz students at their local addresses may not be automatically forwarded to their permanent residences.

For this reason, the College is recommending that students download the absentee ballot application form as a PDF file, which can be filled out and submitted via email, fax or physical mail.

Use this link to download the absentee ballot application for the June 23 Primary (English and Spanish forms are available).

Select “Temporary Illness” as the reason to receive an Absentee Ballot during the COVID-19 Health Crisis.

Completed absentee ballot applications must be submitted no later than June 16, 2020; the sooner they are submitted, the sooner absentee ballots can be distributed.

Absentee ballot applications can be emailed to elections@co.ulster.ny.us or mailed to:
