Update on Senate and Faculty Meetings

SUNY New Paltz is publishing important messages and news updates related to the College’s response to COVID-19 on the campus news website. Use this link to view all these posts in one place.

The update below was shared with faculty and staff on March 23.

Campus community members can view updates at the Coronavirus Information and Coronavirus FAQs webpages, which are being updated regularly as this situation evolves.

Dear Colleagues,

For the remainder of the semester, faculty governance meetings will be conducted via electronic conferencing.  All meetings of the SUNY New Paltz Faculty Senate will be held via Webex. This platform has a polling feature that allows voting to be conducted in accordance with our bylaws.

In view of the changes in the academic calendar, the schedule for senate meetings for the rest of the semester has been revised.

  • The senate will not meet on Wed., April 1.
  • Our next senate meeting will be on Wed., April 8, 9:00 – 11:00 AM. This will be a special meeting for academic faculty senators to work on the Structures and Procedures document, as voted for by the senate on March 11.
  • The next regular meeting of the full senate will be on Wed., April 15 at 9:00 AM.
  • The May meetings will be held as originally scheduled: the full senate will meet on Wed., May 6 at 9:00 AM and the end-of-semester meeting of the College Faculty will be on Thurs., May 7 at 1:00 PM.

Links for joining these meetings via Webex will be sent out in advance with the agendas.

We recognize that many members of our community are not only working from home, but also are dealing with unexpected personal and family responsibilities. It is unclear how long this situation will persist, and the executive committee has determined that the best course of action is to continue to conduct business via web conferencing rather than to delay to an uncertain future date when in-person meetings will again be possible.

Thank you for your support of faculty governance at this challenging time.

Regards,

Anne
