College mourns passing of Mary Grindrod Reid, alumna and former College Council member

It is with sadness that the College shares the news of the death of Mary Grindrod Reid ’45 on Sept. 29, 2018. She was 94.

Reid came to New Paltz from her hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1939. She graduated from SUNY New Paltz in 1945, and married her husband, Robert, that same year.

The Reids settled in the New Paltz area, and Mary took on multiple roles within the community. In addition to her work as a teacher, she sat on the New Paltz Village Planning Board, served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for the Reformed Church of New Paltz, and was active in numerous other local organizations.

In 1973, New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller appointed Reid to the SUNY New Paltz College Council, which she served for 10 years.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Reformed Church of New Paltz. Memorial donations may be made to the Reformed Church of New Paltz.
