Council of Industry names School of Science & Engineering a 2018 Manufacturing Champion

The School of Science & Engineering at SUNY New Paltz has been awarded a 2018 Manufacturing Champion Award by the Council of Industry, the leading manufacturing association of the Hudson Valley.

The Council of Industry presents these awards annually to recognize individuals and organizations who work to develop the regional manufacturing sector, and help entrepreneurs and employees prosper.

In announcing the 2018 awards, the Council lauds the School of Science & Engineering’s Division of Engineering Programs, and the vital role it plays in educating future engineers and preparing them for enriching careers in the Hudson Valley.

“For decades, the School has provided the Hudson Valley with well educated, highly capable electrical and computer engineering graduates, many of whom have gone to work for local manufacturing companies,” said Harold King, executive vice president of the Council of Industry. “Recently, the School added a Mechanical Engineering degree that will have a dramatic positive impact on the region.”

The Council of Industry has been the primary professional association of regional manufacturers and related businesses since its founding in 1910. It is a non-profit, member-driven organization that provides training, networking and advocacy focused on building a thriving manufacturing sector in the Hudson Valley.

Other recipients of 2018 Manufacturing Champion Awards include Deirdre Ryder, president and owner of VITS International; Tom Sipos, host of WKIP’s radio talk show “Hudson Valley Focus Live;” and Kenneth Marshall, leader of the Excelsior Engineering program at Pine Bush High School.

The awards will be presented at a breakfast ceremony at the Powelton Club in Newburgh, N.Y. on May 18.
