SUNY New Paltz again received rave reviews from students in the 2018 version of Princeton Review’s annual college rankings, earning a place on the publication’s list of the 229 best colleges and universities in the Northeast U.S.
Princeton Review’s methodology is uniquely focused on student feedback. Their evaluation starts with a survey of students (137,000 this year) who each respond to 80 questions about their college’s academics, administration, campus culture and student body.
Respondents to this year’s survey had plenty of good things to say about SUNY New Paltz:
- The College is “all about creating successful members of society, educating students in the fields they feel passionate about and making sure every student enjoys their time spent here”
- New Paltz “allows all students to be themselves, even if they don’t necessarily fit [the] mold,” and is welcoming of people from “different backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities, etc.”
- The curriculum helps students become “more analytical, critical thinker[s]”
- Faculty care about “the well-being and success of their students,” and provide “ample time outside the classroom to…[offer] help” when it’s needed”
“There are so many people at our campuses who are dedicated to giving our students the education and resources they need to thrive in college and in their future careers, and the Princeton Review rankings is an affirmation from our students that we are doing it right,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher.
SUNY New Paltz is no stranger to the Princeton Review list. The College has been a fixture on the Best Northeast colleges list for years, and in 2016 appeared on the publication’s inaugural list of the Top Green Colleges in the U.S.
The rankings are published in the annual Princeton Review Best Colleges guidebook, a print and web resource that is relied on by thousands of families nationwide during the college search process.
SUNY New Paltz is nationally ranked among the nation’s top public colleges by a variety of highly regarded publications. Most recently, Forbes ranked New Paltz in the top 100 public colleges in the nation; Kiplinger’s recognized New Paltz on its list of “Best College Values”; the U.S. News and World Report declared New Paltz No. 5 among all public regional universities in the North region; and the Business Journals placed New Paltz among America’s top 75 public colleges and universities.
