College mourns passing of Bob Presbie, emeritus psychology professor

It is with sadness that the College shares the news of the passing of Emeritus Professor Bob Presbie, on Saturday, July 22.

Presbie earned his Ph.D. from Tulane University. He came to SUNY New Paltz in 1967 and served as a member of the Psychology Department until his retirement in 2000. He chaired the department for nine years and taught courses that focused on behavioral psychology – also the subject of much of his research.

“As much as anyone I have ever met, Bob was one-of-a-kind,” said current chair of psychology, Professor Glenn Geher, in a note announcing Presbie’s passing to the campus community. “Teacher, researcher, author, artist, and friend – and an amazing father and grandfather. In an extremely unique way (which is the only way that Bob rolled), he left this world a better place for his having been in it. And I will miss him deeply.”

A memorial service will be held at VFW Post 8645 in New Paltz on Sunday, Aug. 13, beginning at 1 p.m.
