The Center for International Programs (CIP) at SUNY New Paltz hosted its annual fall Study Abroad Fair this month, giving students an opportunity to speak with financial aid experts, study abroad alumni and academic and career advisors about the numerous prospects for international study available through the State University of New York.
“Any SUNY student can study through any SUNY school’s study abroad programs, so we have representatives here from almost all SUNYs that have study abroad programs,” said Study Abroad Advisor Christian Speedling. “Each school has unique programs – probably one of the best things about being a SUNY student is that there are about 600 or 700 choices for study abroad on every continent, including Antarctica.”
For students considering whether study abroad is a good option for them, one of the most valuable aspects of the Study Abroad fair is the participation of many alumni of different international programs.
“In my time in Latin America, I climbed a volcano, I went surfing, spent a week in the desert, went horseback riding in the mountains and more,” Victoria Robertson ’17 (Adolescence Education: Spanish). “It was an incredible experience, and I learned things about myself and about the culture that I never would have if I hadn’t studied abroad. I definitely recommend it to everyone, no matter what your major is.”
Victoria now works as a student assistant for the CIP, and says she loves being able to help others find a path to international study that works for them.
“Come into the office and talk to the advisors,” she said. “We will find something that is affordable and fits with your schedule and your major. Whatever is important to you, come talk to us and we’ll figure it out. No one regrets studying abroad!”
