Town Hall on Inclusion with President Christian, Feb. 10

Many students and other members of the SUNY New Paltz community have asked for opportunities to be heard about their experiences pertaining to inclusion at the College.

In recognition of those requests, President Donald P. Christian invites students, faculty and staff to attend a town hall meeting on inclusion, to be held in the Student Union Multi-purpose Room on Wednesday, Feb. 10, from 2:30-4:00 p.m.

Dr. Steven Jones, a nationally known diversity thought leader and facilitator whom many members of our community have met and worked with, will guide this discussion.

The goal of this town hall is to create a space for experiences of exclusion and inclusion to be spoken and heard. Campus leadership, students, faculty and staff have a shared responsibility to hear these experiences and use them to inform our collective commitment to strengthen inclusion and drive down instances of exclusion.

The town hall format will include a smaller group of about 40 students, faculty, staff and administrators representing a variety of perspectives and experiences on campus, led in an active conversation by Dr. Jones. President Christian will open the session, and along with other campus leaders, will be an active listener and participant in the discussion.

Many on our campus are passionate about the work of inclusion, and work to support and continuously improve the New Paltz experience for all who work and study here. The President’s Office is inviting all interested faculty, staff and students to participate in this event as part of a larger, listening audience.

If you are interested in attending this event, please RSVP by Friday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m. using the following link: http://www.newpaltz.edu/president/rsvpform.html.

We invite your questions for consideration in advance to help guide our discussion; you may submit questions using this suggestion form. All questions are considered informative to our ongoing work and will be recorded, though we may not be able to address all questions submitted in the time allotted for the town hall.
