SUNY New Paltz will be the site of the first-ever Additive New York thing (ANYthing) conference, showcasing the wide range of applications of additive manufacturing – more commonly known as 3D printing – across art, design, engineering, education, agriculture, manufacturing and medicine.
The ANYthing conference on Nov. 5 and 6 aims to bring together experts and professionals from academia, industry, the art world and business who have an interest in the technology, uses and impacts of additive manufacturing.
“As the name suggests, the ANYthing conference will showcase the incredible breadth of the impact that 3D printing is having on education, art, medicine, design, manufacturing, business and society as a whole,” said Daniel Freedman, dean of the School of Science & Engineering and director of the Hudson Valley Advanced Manufacturing Center (HVAMC) at SUNY New Paltz. “We’re bringing the world of 3D printing to the Mid-Hudson Valley.”
Keynote speakers and panelists from GE Central Research, Shapeways, Binghamton University, Stratasys, Tiffany’s and the Tyler School of Art at Temple University will visit campus to discuss such diverse 3D-printing-related topics as materials, art, supply chain, design and bioprinting.
Thursday, Nov. 5 will feature a full day of talks and panels including:

- Doug Bucci (Artist, Philadelphia, PA), “Thinking Organically in a Digital Age”
- James Orrock (VP for FDM Materials Development, Stratasys): “How 3D Printing is re-shaping 21st Century Manufacturing”
- Kaiming Ye (Professor and Chair, Dept. of Biomedical Engineering, Binghamton University): “3D Bioprinting—Frontier of Regenerative Medicine”
- Panel Session with William Carter, Cary James, Lauren Slowik, Michael Gayk, Kat Wilson and Moderator Jeni Mokren: “Additive Design: Preparing the Next Generation”
Concluding the first day’s schedule will be a 3D Printing Expo with a reception and poster presentation highlighting students’ research and the manifold educational applications of additive manufacturing and digital design.
A half-day of open sessions is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6, featuring workshops chaired by SUNY New Paltz faculty, HVAMC staff and other 3D printing luminaries representing a variety of professions.
