Student work on display at Veteran Arts Showcase

Undergraduate student Adelia Roberts ’15 (Painting & Drawing) is among a handful of artists who will have their work featured at this year’s Veteran Arts Showcase, from Nov. 21-23, at FDR Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park, N.Y.

Now in its second year, the showcase, which is  free and open to the public,  features works by local artists, photographers, student-artists, and authors with military backgrounds.

Throughout the weekend visitors will experience a unique and powerful co-mingling of multiple arts that touch our deepest connections to war and community. Saturday and Sunday there will be workshops and open discussions between the hours of 10 a.m.-5 p.m., including: visual art exhibits; a writers workshop for veterans and military families; open civilian-veteran discussions on the aftereffects of war and the healing power of the arts; fly-tying demonstrations; film and lecture on underwater photography; and readings by veteran poets and authors. The weekend’s events will culminate on Sunday afternoon with “The Veterans Project:Leaving Theatre,” a veteran and civilian theatrical troop performing an interactive play with the audience that focuses on veteran reintegration.

The Veteran Arts Showcase is the result of a collaborative effort between the Creative Warriors, Orange County Arts Council, and the Veteran Family Support Alliance (VETFAMSA), who together serve communities in Dutchess, Ulster and Orange Counties — and throughout the Hudson Valley.
