SUNY New Paltz to host Fort Lauderdale area alumni reception

NEW PALTZ – Dr. Donald P. Christian, president of the State University of New York at New Paltz, will host a reception for College alumni on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the Fort Lauderdale Westin Hotel, 400 Corporate Lane, Fort Lauderdale. There is a suggested donation of $10.

The reception will be from 6 – 8:30 p.m. Mrs. Sandra Christian will accompany the president.

“We have many alumni and friends on the East Coast of Florida and we hope to meet with a good number of them,” Christian said. “There are many good things happening on the campus, and it is important that we let alumni know that their alma mater is maintaining the high standards of academic excellence that alumni experienced when they were students.” A short video will provide alumni with a glimpse of today’s SUNY New Paltz campus and community.

Christian pointed to recent rankings and other indicators of progress. Kiplinger’s Personal Finance named SUNY New Paltz among the top 100 best values in the nation for public four-year institutions that deliver a high quality education at an affordable price. Princeton Review ranks the College high as both a best value and as a green campus noted for its sustainability practices. SUNY New Paltz has more applications for first-year admission than any other SUNY college – a distinction it has held for the last 23 years. The College has student retention and graduation rates that well exceed national averages.

“We are proud of what is happening and the recognition the College is receiving, and we know our alumni will be, too,” Christian said.
