SUNY New Paltz Police Department to conduct active shooter drills

NEW PALTZ – The University Police Department (UPD) at the State University of New York at New Paltz will be conducting active shooter training over the next two weekends on the College’s campus. The training will take place on two Saturdays, June 16 and 23, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. During those hours, the van den Berg Learning Center will be closed and off limits to the campus and the general public.

UPD Chief David Dugatkin says the drills provide his officers with an opportunity to train for this type of incident that has happened on several college campuses throughout the country. “These are the scenarios that we must train and be prepared for at a moment’s notice. It’s training we hope we’ll never have to use,” said Dugatkin.
