NEW PALTZ – The School of Business at the State University of New York at New Paltz announces the 2012 recipients of its service, teaching and research awards.
Dr. Shuguang Liu, Dr. Joel Neuman and Dr. Surinder Tikoo will receive the Distinguished Service Award, Distinguished Teaching Award, and Distinguished Research Award, respectively. Debbie Loucks will receive the Staff Service Award.
The awards recognize members of the school’s faculty and staff who demonstrated outstanding service, teaching and research effectiveness.

The faculty and staff will receive their awards during the School of Business’s Award & Graduation Ceremony, which will also include the Honor Society induction and presentation of student academic and service awards, on May 4 in the Jullien J. Studley Theatre on campus.
“These great members of the School have gone above and beyond their duties to make significant difference in their profession, the quality of our educational programs and services, and the educational experiences of our students,” stated Hadi Salavitabar, dean of the School of Business.
Salavitabar commented that “Dr. Liu is one of the most active and effective faculty leaders in our school. He is always available and willing to work hard in helping our students, improving our programs, mentoring faculty members, and making our School a better to place.”
Neuman has extensive prior experience as an executive in the private sector and is involved in ongoing activities in research, scholarship, and management consulting. “Dr. Neuman’s students are exposed to cutting-edge research and thinking through extensive readings, classroom discussions, and case analyses,” said Salavitabar.
Tikoo’s research has focused on franchising, consumer decision-making, and the interface of finance and marketing. He has 21 publications in prominent venues and his research has been cited in prestigious journals, Ph.D. theses, development bank reports, conference proceedings, and books. His articles have been used as reading materials in doctoral, MBA, and undergraduate courses in business programs at several universities.
Salavitabar said, “Ms. Loucks is an outstanding secretary who never limits herself to the duties of her position. She takes as many extra steps as necessary to assist students, faculty, staff, and those who visit our school.”
