New Paltz chapter of American Marketing Association wins silver at International Collegiate Conference

NEW PALTZ – On March 26, 2011 the State University of New York at New Paltz Student Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) received a silver trophy for their achievement in marketing at the 33rd Annual AMA’s International Collegiate Conference held in New Orleans from March 24-26.

Over 1,300 students and 200 faculty advisors from chapters across the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and Hawaii attended this year’s conference.

New Paltz students succeeded across a spectrum of sections. The most prestigious competition was the Annual Strategic Marketing Plan and Report competition for which students submitted a 10 page document of the chapter’s plans for student development, community service, fundraising, membership, communications and chapter operations and a 20 page report of the chapter’s accomplishments.

Out of the 150 colleges, New Paltz placed in the “Elite 8” for the second year in a row with the highest total point average ever received by New Paltz–91.38 out of 100. New Paltz also earned the highest score of all New York state colleges and was the second smallest school to place in the top 16.

Of the 64 chapters that entered the Web site competition, New Paltz took third place and, of the 60 chapters participating in the Nintendo Case competition, New Paltz received honorable mention. This was the first time the chapter competed in these two competitions.

In addition, New Paltz took third place in the AMASAVESLIVES competition, which created awareness of the need for organ donations using social media. They received a scholarship for $350.

“I am so proud of this group because it is an entirely new Board who established a very ambitious agenda for entering all these competitions and then did extraordinarily well,” Professor Ted Clark of the School of Business said.

Dean Hadi Salavitabar of the School of Business said, “the AMA’s success is an example of the quality of students in the business program at New Paltz.”

Representing the New Paltz chapter were: faculty advisor, Professor Ted Clark of the School of Business; AMA President, Fiona Lee; Executive VP, Eddie Monroy; VP of Membership, Nick Limongelli; VP of Community Service, Michael Dispenzieri; VP of Programming, Kareen Friedman; VP of Advertising/ Promotion, Kayleen Rider; VP of Public Relations, Angelica Arache; VP of Web Design, Zak Zaintz; and VP of Fundraising, Ryan Laino, all members of the Executive Board. In addition, three general members Derya Eren, Sean Reminick and Maria Izquierdo also attended and the latter two competed in the Northwestern Mutual sales competition.
