Successful Senior Day in the Pool with Broken Records

NEW PALTZ, NY– The New Paltz men’s and women’s swimming teams fell to Stevens Saturday afternoon. The men fell to the Ducks, 126-79 and the women fell 116-89. The men’s team finishes up 2-7 overall and women at 3-6 overall.

On the women’s side, Melinda Pullen had a memorable senior day setting a pool record winning the 1000 Yard Freestyle. Becky Baker set a pool record earning the victory in the 100 Yard Breaststroke; she also finished third in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Baker continued her strong meet being apart of the relay team that won the 200 Yard Medley Relay. Jessica Lester came in second in the 500 Yard Freestyle and the 200 Yard Freestyle with her relay team. Lester finished third in the 200 Yard IM right behind her teammate Yuka Suzuka.

Suzuka won the 100 Yard Backstroke and had a second place finish in the 200 Yard IM. In addition, she was apart of the relay team that won the 200 Yard Medley Relay.

Marissa Morris won the 200 Yard Freestyle and the 200 Yard Medley Relay with her relay team. Morris was apart of the relay team in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay that finished second.

On the men’s side, the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay was a season best and Billy Papetti led his team with a brilliant start. Papetti won the 50 Yard Freestyle and was again apart of a relay team to win the 200 Yard Medley Relay. Steve Cozzolongo swam strong finishing second in two events. He was second in the 100 Yard Butterfly and 100 Yard Backstroke. Cozzolongo swam with a relay team that won the 200 Yard Medley Relay.

Marc Battisti finished third in the 200 Yard Freestyle, and Pete Nastasi finished third in the 1000 Yard Freestyle. Corey Lomas came in third in the 100 Yard Freestyle, Zack Lowenstein finished third in the 100 Yard Backstroke. Rob Webb and Keith MacDonald both finished third in their events.
