Hawks Fall to Union in the Consolation Game of William Paterson Tournament

WAYNE, NJ- The New Paltz women’s basketball team fell to Union College, 64-56 in the consolation game of the William Paterson Tournament.The Hawks forced 24 turnovers and had 14 steals as a team.New Paltz falls to 5-3 overall and returns to the court January 8 against Geneseo at 6 p.m. on the campus of SUNY Geneseo.

Sophomore Caitlin Irwin led the Hawks with 15 points, three rebounds and two steals and senior Kristen Caban added 13 points.Senior Maggie Farrell added 10 points, six boards and three steals and Carly Minehan added a team-high nine boards and three points.Nicole Sarcone had a game-high five assists and three points.

Megan Clark led Union with a game-high 18 points and nine boards and Lauren McCormick added a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.Leah Pepe, Mary Donohue and Shayla Madden each had eight points as Union improves to 2-7.

The Hawks started the game on a 10-1 run over the first three and half minutes and held a double-digit lead for most of the half.The Hawks went into the break with a 33-26 lead.In the second half, the Hawks maintained a seven point lead at 43-36 before Union went on a 20-8 run to take a 56-48 lead and held onto the victory.
