Hawks Back On Track with Win; Sarcone Breaks School Record

PLATTSBURGH, NY- In the second half with 15 minutes, 10 seconds remaining senior point guard Nicole Sarcone assisted on Carly Minehan’s jumper to tie the all-time school record in assists. Two minutes, 30 seconds later, Sarcone’s pass to set-up Abbey DeRossi lay-up gave her the schools all-time record with 430 assists. She finished the game with six points, a game-high 10 assists and four rebounds. The Hawks dominated Plattsburgh for the 72-58 victory and improve to 10-7 overall and 7-4 in the league.

Minehan finished with a double-double, 21 points and 10 rebounds (7 offensive) and Maggie Farrell finished with 17 points and four steals. Alexandra McCullough had 10 points.

Taylor Amarando led the Cardinals with 13 points and seven rebounds and Stephanie McCoy had 10 points and five rebounds. Caitlin O’Keefe chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds as the Cardinals fall to 2-15 overall and 0-11 in the league.

The Hawks opened the game on an 11-3 run in the first six minutes, but Plattsburgh would cut the lead to three at 14-11 with nine minutes, nine seconds remaining in the half. The Hawks quickly scored six straight to take control of the game. The Hawks led by as many as 14 in the half and outscored the Cardinals 8-0 in the paint. The Hawks held an advantage in second chance points, 14-0 and points of turnovers, 14-0 in the half.

In the second half, the Cardinals hung around, but never got within seven points until there was six minutes, seven seconds remaining in the game. Farrell ignited the Hawks on a 14-3 run with 10 points during the stretch and the Hawks outscored the Cardinals 11-0 of turnovers.

The Hawks return to the court Tuesday, February 1st against Cortland at 6 p.m. in the Hawk Center.
