Hawks Soar Past Bears; Agyemang Sets Career-High

NEW PALTZ, NY- Oppong Agyemang set a career-high in assists with 16 and the Hawks stormed past the Bears from Potsdam 99-68 (Box Score), Saturday evening in the Hawk Center. Five Hawk players score in double-digits as the Hawks pick up their first conference victory and improve to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the SUNYAC.

Harris Wichard scored a game-high 23 points, 21 in the second half and Shereef Taylor had 18 points, five assists, five rebounds and four steals. Jayquan Anderson added 12 points and six rebounds and Matt Devine had 12 points as well. Pete Carmel scored a career-high 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting and 1-of-1 from the free throw line.

Anthony Williams, Jr scored a team-high 18 points for the Bears and Skip Schwartz added 15 points and three steals. Benjamin Walker chipped in with 10 points and Joshua Lambert and Olando Minott each netted eight points a piece.

Potsdam seemed to be in control of the game for the first five and half minutes as they held a 19-12 lead. The Hawks used two big runs of 19-5 and 19-8 to take control of the game. After trailing by seven, the Hawks finished the half on a 38-13 run to take a commanding 50-32 lead at the break.

The Hawks continued to extend their lead in the second half as they scored the first 10 points of the half and pushed their lead to as many as 33 with eight minutes remaining in the game.

The Hawks return to the court Friday, January 8, 2010 against conference foe Geneseo at 8:00 p.m. on the campus of SUNY Geneseo.
