Hawks Dominate In SUNYAC Opener

NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team dominated the Cardinals from Plattsburgh Friday night 87-48 (Box Score) in the Hawk Center. The Hawks held the Cardinals to 17 second half points to improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the SUNYAC.

Maggie Farrell led the way with a game-high 15 points and three rebounds and Maliqua Fisher added 13 points. Alexandra McCullough chipped in with 12 points, shooting 2-of-2 from behind the arc and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Sam DelGaudio had a strong game with seven points and eight rebounds.

Taylor Amarando led the Cardinals with 11 points and six rebounds and Caitlin O’Keefe added 10 points and seven rebounds. Stephanie McCoy chipped in with seven points and seven rebounds. Plattsburgh falls to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the SUNYAC.

The first six minutes saw the Cardinals take an early advantage at 11-9. After that, the Hawks would go on a run of 32-9 to take a 41-20 lead with 3:31 remaining in the half. The Hawks shot 49 percent in the first half and 47 percent from behind the arc for a 48-31 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Hawks limited the Cardinals to 17 points and holding them to 19 percent from the floor. The Hawks also forced 12 turnovers. The Hawks came out and pushed their lead to as many as 28 with 13 minutes remaining in the game. The Hawks continued to push their lead to 37 points with 2:28 remaining.
