Exemplifying School Spirit

New Paltz athletes continue to excel in a variety of venues. After earning the SUNYAC Women’s Volleyball Championship last week, the New Paltz women’s volleyball team continued their success this week with a straight set victory over Roger Williams University in the first round of competition at the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament.

The Hawks advanced to the second round of the NCAA Regional’s where they were defeated in a five match thriller against Salisbury University. The Hawks end the season with a new school record 33-6 overall.

Yet, it is not only the athletic success of New Paltz’s student-athletes that sets them apart. New Paltz athletes have traditionally excelled in the classroom. Female student-athletes average a 3.4 grade point average and male student-athletes average a 3.1 grade point average. Other academic highlights include:

• 101 All-SUNYAC Academic List recipients
• 45 SUNYAC Commissioner’s List recipients
• Four College Swimmers Coaches Association of America Scholar-Athlete Award recipients
• Two Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Award winners

In addition, this November, the Hawk athletic teams reached out to the community of New Paltz to help over 35 families rake their lawns and helped with the Haunted Houses for Children community service project.
