Student Union to shine

"This edifice symbolizes both the College’s enduring link to its geographic setting and our shared aspiration to reach bold new vistas."
President Steven Poskanzer, 2009 State of the College

Rising from between the Haggerty Administration and Student Union buildings, on the doorstep of the campus, the Student Union addition was inspired by the Shawangunk Mountains seen in the distance.

This "diamond in the rough," which has already received a merit award from the American Institute of Architects, will pulsate with New Paltz’s vitality. It will be our central gathering place when it opens in mid-2010.

The 15,000-square-foot addition will provide students with ample space to attend conferences, hold meetings and even display their artwork. The building will also allow for a more grand entrance to the Campus Bookstore.

While enhancing accessibility to students is at the heart of the building’s design, the Student Union is also at the forefront of our environmentally sound construction initiatives. The steel structure will be equipped with low- and zero-impact electrical and mechanical support systems and sustainable finishes throughout.
