Fredonia Ends Hawks Push for SUNYAC’s

CORTLAND, NY- The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team played the Blue Devils from Fredonia State in a makeup game from September 26 in Fredonia. The game was held at Cortland on the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex Field Tuesday evening. The Blue Devils ended the Hawks push for a SUNYAC playoff bid with a 2-0 victory.

John Grabowski’s first goal of the season put Fredonia State in the lead at 12:01. Set up in the box, he was on the receiving end of passes from Cory Paine and Brett Wysocki.

The insurance goal by Dagel — his team-high seventh goal of the season — came with nine minutes left in what had by then become a regulation game. A long through pass by Rejean Archambeault sent Dagel into the clear, and Dagel took his time to get off his shot after forcing New Paltz goalkeeper Thomas Viscardi (Lake Ronkonkoma/Sachem North) out of the net.

Thom Cavanaugh recorded the win in net for the Blue Devils, saving five shots. Fredonia improves to 7-5-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the SUNYAC.

Tom Viscardi recorded the loss in net, stopping three shots on the evening. New Paltz falls to 6-8-2 overall and 1-6-0 in the SUNYAC. The Hawks travel to Oswego on Friday for a 4 p.m. start,
