The Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at the State University of New York at New Paltz will host an evening of “Fine Wine + Fine Art” that will include tastings of wine, hors d’oeuvres from the Depuy Canal House, artisanal cheese and chocolates, fine ports and an auction of fine wine and fine art. The event, a benefit for the The Dorsky Museum, begins at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, in the museum’s gallery.
The event’s honorary chairman is SUNY New Paltz alum Steven Koplan ’71, who is a professor and chair of Wine Studies at the Culinary Institute of America and co-author of “Exploring Wine” and Wine Wise.”
Auctioneer Fred Mayo will guide the bidding on a selection of collectable wines, including a 1990 Chateâu Montrose; 1989 Sauternes, Chateau d’Yquem; a three pack of 2000 Diamond Creek wines, Cabernet Sauvignon – Gravelly Meadow Napa, Volcanic Hill Napa & Redrock Terrace Napa; 2005 Colgin Estate Cabernet Blend – IX Estate Napa; as well as a 2002 Rubicon, Rubicon Estate, Rutherford, Napa, accompanied by a signed hardcover copy of Steven Kolpan’s history of the estate, "A Sense of Place."
Fine art items to be auctioned off include signed, numbered limited edition prints by Henry Moore; Robert Rauschenberg; Mary Frank; Lynn Chadwick; Richard Hunt; Fernand Leger; and Hank Virgona.
The auction also includes a weeklong stay in the Swiss village of Soazza, in the guest quarters of a traditional “rustico” stone house dating to 1337 in the heart of Swiss-Italian merlot wine country.
