The men’s and women’s runners of New Paltz traveled to Troy, NY on Saturday to compete in the Capital District Classic hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). A number of student-athletes had solid outings at the non-scoring meet, which featured 12 schools.
The New Paltz men were led by sophomore Joseph Gentsch who finished third out of 37 runners in the 800 meter run in a time of 1:57.61. Dan Caruso ran the same event in 2:08.48. First year Dexter Larson posted an impressive 17:16.81 in the 5000 meters, for a seventh place finish in a field of 24 runners. Robert Webster and Doug Templeton each ran the 1500-meter and clocked times of 4:40.96 and 4:42.73, respectively.
For the women, sophomore Danielle Harmon took third in the 5000 meters in 20:10.75. Junior Lisa Cassaro finished 13th out of 38 in the 1500 meter in 5:15.30 and Lisa Brown finished in 5:19.06 while Alex Berenis crossed in 5:22.29. Kristina Rolla ran a 1:08.55 in the 400-meter dash and Amanda Ward posted a 12:59.68 in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
