Oneonta ends Hawks push to SUNYAC Tournament with a doubleheader sweep

ONEONTA, NY- The SUNY New Paltz baseball team push for the SUNYAC Tournament came to end Saturday afternoon against the Red Dragons of Oneonta.  The Red Dragons swept the Hawks 6-0 in game one and 18-0 in game two.

In game one, two Red Dragon pitchers combined for the shut out and scattering seven hits.  Senior Devin Scalabrini led the Hawks from the plate going 2-for-4 and five other Hawks added a hit apiece.

Senior Jonathan Shanks recorded the loss on the mound allowing six runs, five earned, on nine hits and striking out three batters in his third complete game of the year.

In the nightcap, three Red Dragon pitchers combined for the four hit shut out.  Paul Merola led the Hawks from the plate going 2-for-3 and Dylan Franco was 1-for-1 in his only at-bat of the game.  Clinton Boettcher added the fourth hit for the Hawks on the afternoon.

Senior Jimmy Donohue recorded the loss on the mound allowing six runs, four earned, on six hits in four innings.  Three Hawks pitchers pitched the final four innings allowing 12 runs, ten earned, on 12 hits and striking four batters.

The Hawks conclude their conference play with a 3-9 record and fall to 9-24 overall.  New Paltz returns to the field tomorrow against Lehman College at 12 p.m. on the campus of Lehman College.
