Campus to celebrate Earth Day on April 22

NEW PALTZ – The State University of New York at New Paltz will participate in Sustain 2009, a statewide Earth Day celebration and series of informational talks, on Wednesday, April 22.

The campus will host two presentations and take part in a live webcast. All events will be held in Lecture Center room 100.

Brian Pine, director of Facilities Operations, will start off the day’s events by giving an overview of the campus greening efforts and future plans for recycling from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Recycling coordinator and New Paltz student Lauren Brois and members of the Recycling Club will give a presentation, beginning at 11:30 a.m., about the campus’s participation in RecycleMania, a national collegiate competition, and other recycling efforts.

The highlight of the day’s events is a webcast with Alan Belensz of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, which will be broadcasted live from the University at Albany from noon to 1 p.m. The title of the talk is “Climate Change and the New Energy Economy – The Challenge of Our Generation.”
