#14 Hawks Fall to #8 Ramapo

The #14 SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team hosted #8 Ramapo Wednesday night and fell to the Roadrunners 3-0 (30-26, 30-27, 31-29) at the Hawk Center.

First year Kevin Stross (Port Washington/Schreiber) collected 13 kills on 23 attempts in the match hitting .478, while senior Jake Moore (Cortlandt Manor/Hendrick Hudson) recorded 12 kills for the Hawks. The team combined for 49 kills on 112 attempts with 19 errors hitting .268 while the Roadrunners put away 43 kills on 109 attempts with only 19 errors hitting .220. Sophomore Andrew Cassius (Brooklyn/Midwood) finished the match with 46 assists and 10 digs. New Paltz totaled 13 service errors as Ramapo tallied eight aces.

The Hawks trailed 27-26 before Ramapo tallied the final three points of the game to take set one, 30-26. Ramapo took an early 15-5 lead in set two before New Paltz inched their way back into the mix. Still trailing 22-16 the Hawks rallied behind Ryan Huberty’s (Liverpool) serving to even the set at 23-23. Down by one at 28-27, the Roadrunners registered the final two points on kills for the 30-27 decision. After a back and fourth rally for the final points of the game, Ramapo pushed for two to take the final set, 31-29.

The Hawks fall to 12-8 on the season and 4-2 in NECVA-metro play and will return to action on February 26th when they host NJCU at 7pm.
