Womens Swim Falls Short Against NYU

The New Paltz women’s swim team hosted NYU Monday afternoon and fell to the Violets 100-95, dropping their first dual meet of the season.

Sophomore Christine Rieth was a double winner for the Hawks as she took first in the 50 free (25.48) and the 100 free (55.05). Jessica Lester finished first in the 200 free (2:00.06) and was part of the winning 400 free relay. Lester teamed up with Allison Wells, Tiffany Sorrell and Marissa Morris for the winning time of 3:47.51. Seniors Erica Ellis and Joelle Hopf each won an event as Ellis claimed the 200 IM (2:19.44) out-touching second place by .02 seconds. Hopf won the 200 breaststroke in 2:29.14 as she beat out the competition by over eight seconds. Morris had two second place finishes on the day in the 200 free (2:01.49) and the 200 back (2:17.61).

New Paltz returns to the pool on Thursday January 15th when the men and women host the Geneseo Blue Wave at 1pm.
