Second Half Run Leads Women’s Basketball to 61-47 Victory Over Geneseo

The women’s basketball team traveled to Geneseo Friday night and defeated the Knights 61-47. The Hawks improve to 11-4 on the season and 7-1 in conference play.

New Paltz trailed much of the first half, until a 6-1 run by the Hawks over the final 2:22 led to a 20-16 advantage for New Paltz. In the second half, New Paltz advanced to a ten-point lead at 36-26, before Geneseo rallied and took a 40-39 with a 14-3 run. New Paltz responsed with a 16-4 spurt that put the game away.

First year Caitlin Irwin led the Hawks with 16 points on 5-11 from the field, including 4-9 from the arc. Junior Maggie Farrell finished with 10 points, four rebounds and three steals. Artie Williams and Samantha Delgaudio each chipped in with seven points, as Williams grabbed a team high 11 boards. Geneseo dominated the boards 53-43, but New Paltz shot 35.9% from the field compared to the Knights 24.5%.

The Hawks will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Brockport for a 2pm tipoff.
