The SUNY New Paltz men’s swim team competed at the Kumpf Invite held at RPI on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks totaled 333 points to finish fourth out of seven teams.
The 200 medley relay of Stephen Cozzolongo, Rob Webb, Dave Gardner and Pat Rathbun combined for a second place finish in 3:43.91. Gardner also teamed with Zack Lowenstein, Billy Papetti and Matt Demerest in the 400 free relay for a second place finish (3.22.42). Individually, Rathbun posted the best finish with a third place touch in the 50 free (22.93). Gardner posted a fourth place finish in the 200 IM (2:07.23) and Webb finished fourth in the 200 fly (2:06.43) and fifth in the 200 free (1:51.66). Matt Gassert touched fifth in the 200 breast (2:24.20), Marc Battisti took eighth in the 200 back (2:07.88) and Brian Bennett placed ninth in the 1000 free (10:54.77) and 10th in the 500 free (5:13.51).
The Hawks will return to the pool on Monday when the men and women travel to Stevens Institute of Technology for a 1pm meet.
