Taylor and Agyemang help lead Hawks over Buffalo State in men’s basketball

NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team hosted Buffalo State Saturday evening and defeated the Bengals, 85-78, in the Hawk Center.

In the first half, the Hawks held a five point advantage at the half, 36-31, with a 10-4 run to close out the half. The Hawks were led by freshman guard Shereef Taylor (Hyde Park, NY/FDR) with ten points and three rebounds. Freshman guard Harris Wichard (Merrick, NY/Bellmore JFK) and Oppong Agyemang (Windsor, CT/Windsor) each had seven points and three rebounds. Agyemang also had three assists for the Hawks.

The Bengals were led by Antonio Samedi with nine points and four rebounds and A.J. White chipped in with eight points.

In the second half, the Hawks led until the 4:34 mark when the Bengals tied the game with a free throw. From that point the Hawks took control of the game. The Hawks went on a 10-1 run over the next two minutes and fifty seconds to take a 74-65 lead and never looked back from there.

Five Hawk players scored in double-figures on the night, led by Taylor with a career high 28 points, eight rebounds and a career high five assists. Agyemang added a career high ten points, five rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Lee Bertram (Bayport, NY/Bayport Blue-Point) and Jayquan Anderson (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglass Academy) each added 14 points respectfully.

The Bengals were led by James Tyndal with 20 points and six rebounds and Jamar Gray chipped in with 17 points. White finished with 16 points and eight rebounds. Buffalo State falls to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in SUNYAC competition.

The Hawks improve to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in SUNYAC competition.

New Paltz returns to the court Tuesday December 9 at Williams College in Massachusetts at 7:30 p.m.
