New Paltz cruises over Morrisville State in men’s basketball

MORRISVILLE, NY- The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team cruised over Morrisville State College, 83-53, Tuesday night at the John B. Stuart Activities Center.

The Hawks started the contest on a 12-0 run and pushed the led to as much as 17. The Hawks finished the half on 12-4 run to take a 37-20 advantage at intermission.

The Hawks were led by Jayquan Anderson (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglass Academy) with eight points and four rebounds. Shereef Taylor (Hyde Park, NY/FDR) chipped in with six points and four rebounds and Connor Cornine (Warwick, NY/Don Bosco Prep) added five points and five rebounds to pace the Hawks in the first half.

The Mustangs were led by Joe McCants and Elonzo Wilson with four points and three rebounds each. The Hawks held Morrisville to 27 percent from the floor in the first half.

In the second half, it was more of the same story as the Hawks jumped out of the gates with 19-2 run pushing the led to 34 points and led by as many as 41 points. The Hawks shot 57 percent from the field in the second half and 52 percent for the game.

Anderson had 13 points and four rebounds in the half and finished the game with 21 points and eight rebounds. Lee Bertram (Bayport, NY/Bayport-Blue Point) added 15 points, four rebounds and three assists and Matt Hauser (East Williston, NY/Chaminade) chipped in with 11 points.

Morrisville was led by DaShawn Coleman with 12 points and McCants chipped in with six points and four rebounds. Morrisville falls to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in SUNYAC competition.

The Hawks improve to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in SUNYAC competition. The Hawks return to the court Friday December 5 at 8 p.m. against Fredonia in the Hawk Center.
