Men’s soccer holds annual awards banquet

NEW PALTZ, NY- The men’s soccer team held their annual awards banquet Thursday December 11 and handed out season awards.

The following awards were given out:

Golden Boot (Top Scorer): Jimmy Altadonna 12 goals and 1 assist for 25 points

Silver Boot: Tommy Garafola – 4 Goals and 7 Assists for 15 Points

Goal of the year – Voted on by the players went to Tommy Garafola who notched the 1st goal versus Vassar with a perfectly placed shot into the upper right corner.

Saves of the year – Voted on by the players went to Pat Carlucci who made 16 saves against Oneonta to preserve a 0-0 tie.

Midfielder Tommy Garafola was the recipient of the First-Year Player Award for his leadership and integrity throughout the season

Junior forward Harper Jaroff received the 12th Player Award given to the student athlete who unselfishly contributed to the success of the team in a supporting role, his play off the bench raised the team’s level of play.

The Most Improved Player Award went to defender Dimitris Alexiou who showed significant improvement during the season and had an impact on the team’s performance.

Senior captain Chris Hotzak received the Hall of Fame Award given annually to the senior student-athlete who demonstrated outstanding play and dedication throughout their entire athletic career at New Paltz.

The Hawk Coaches Award went to senior goalkeeper Patrick Carlucci whose inspiration and enthusiasm contributed to the success of the team

For the second consecutive year junior defender Anton Shipman was chosen by his teammates as the Most Valuable Player because of his outstanding leadership and superior play throughout the season.

The team also selected Anton Shipman and Tommy Garafola as their captains for the 2009 season for their play on and off the field.
