Volleyball Falls to Stevens and Defeats Rochester

The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team finished second at the Vassar College Invitational with a 3-1 record, behind Stevens who went 4-0 on the weekend. Brittany Coyle, Melinda DiGiovanna and Nicole Mercadante were all named to the all-tournament team.

New Paltz fell to Stevens 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-22) in the first match of the day. Coyle led the attack with seven kills and Alison Kiernan added five kills. Stephanie Bova dished out 15 assists and Mercadante and Lauren Hogue each finished with nine digs.

The Hawks swept Rochester 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-20) in the final match. Coyle finished with 11 kills, three aces and three blocks. DiGiovanna chipped in with 11 kills and 13 digs. Bova handed out 42 assists and Mercadante tallied 15 digs.

The Hawks complete the regular season 28-8 and will continue play at the SUNYAC championship on Friday November 7th when they play the winner of Brockport/Potsdam in the semifinals. New Paltz earned a first round bye with their #1 seed in the east division.
