New Paltz and Skidmore play to a 1-1 tie in men’s soccer

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY- The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team tied host Skidmore College 1-1 Friday evening to conclude the 2008 season.

It was the final game for seniors Patrick Carlucci, Robbie Mendes, Ryan Lundgren and Chris Hotzak.

The Hawks opened the scoring in the 43rd minute when Hotzak (Smithtown, NY/St. James) crossed the ball and found Evan Martel (West Sayville, NY/ Sayville) on the header and was initially blocked by the goalkeeper, but Joe Rose (Seaford, NY/Seaford) was there to put the ball into the back of the net.

Skidmore tied the game with 2o seconds left in the first half when Matt Wolff found Pat Wildes for the goal.

Tommy Garafola (Richmond Hill, NY/St. Francis Prep) had a chance to regain the lead, but his shot was off the post.

Patrick Carlucci (Goshen, NY/Goshen) tallied 14 saves in net and help the Hawks finish the season at 7-8-4 overall and 3-6-1 in SUNYAC competition.
