Women’s Soccer Captures First SUNYAC Win of the Season

The women’s soccer team traveled to Fredonia this afternoon and captured their first SUNYAC win of the season with a 2-0 victory over the Blue Devils. With the win New Paltz improves to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

SUNY New Paltz dominated control of the ball in the first half, out shooting Fredonia 10-2, but was unable to captalize on any shots until the second half. Senior Jennifer Anselmi (North Rockland) found the back of the net in the 48th minute on a quick shot inside the 18 yard line, for the 1-0 lead. In the 61st minute, Fredonia had a chance for the equalizer but a shot by Christa Morgante hit off the post.

At 75:20, New Paltz completed the scoring when sophomore Emily Buckner (Pine Bush) touched a through ball to freshman Alexa Balextrieri (Massapequa) for her first collegiate goal. The defensive until and goalkeeper Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville) combined for their third shutout of the season, as Boccard posted four saves.

The Hawks will travel to Buffalo State on Saturday to face the Bengals at 1pm.
