Buffalo State edges out New Paltz 1-0 in men’s soccer

NEW PALTZ, NY- The Bengals from Buffalo State edged out SUNY New Paltz 1-0 in men’s soccer Saturday afternoon.

In a very physical game between both teams, where there were 39 total fouls, four yellow cards and a red card between the teams, Buffalo State used a goal in the 74th minute for the victory.

In the 26th minute, the Hawks had the chance to strike first when James Altadonna (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) was one on one with the goalie before taken down by the Bengals goalkeeper 20 yards out.

In the 36th minute, Buffalo State’s Stephan Galante took a corner and found Justin Lofaro on the header that hit the cross bar and the Hawks defense punched it out to maintain the 0-0 tie.

In the 74th minute, the Bengals Steve Orfanos forced a turnover deep in the Hawks defense and ripped a shot passed the goalie for the 1-0 lead and eventually the game winner.

Patrick Carlucci (Goshen, NY/Goshen) recorded the loss in net and tallied four saves. SUNY New Paltz falls to 4-4-2 overall and 1-2 in SUNYAC competition.

Dan Corti recorded the win and tallied six saves on the afternoon. Buffalo State improves to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in SUNYAC competition.

SUNY New Paltz returns to action Friday October 3rd at 4 p.m., when they visit Geneseo and Brockport Saturday October 4th.
