Women’s Tennis Opens Season with 8-1 Win

The women’s tennis team hosted Plattsburgh in their home opener today and defeated the Cardinals 8-1.

The Hawks swept the doubles as senior Dana Lim and sophomore Stephanie Schara opened the match with an 8-5 win at first doubles. The second doubles team of senior Lindsay Trifiletti and junior Lyndsey Lovinger won 8-1 and the third doubles team of junior Kerri Serkes and first year Calder Mills-Lexvold won by a score of 8-3.

In singles action, Lim won at #1, 6-0, 6-1. Match three and four were scored 6-1, 6-0 in New Paltz’s favor with Lovinger at third and Trifiletti at fourth. Serkes captured fifth singles 6-2, 6-0 and first year Ingrid Maryansky breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at sixth singles. Plattsburgh’s lone victory of the day came at second singles with Morgan Dupell defeating Schara. Schara took the first set 6-3 before Dupell claimed set two 6-3 to force the tiebreaker where Dupell won 10-8.

New Paltz will return to action on Friday September 5th when they host Cortland at 3:30pm.
