Baseball Splits with Oswego

NEW PALTZ, NY — The baseball team hosted Oswego this afternoon and split with the Lakers winning game one 5-1 before dropping the second 3-2.
In game one, the Hawks took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double to right center by Tyler Terlecky to score Jesse Marsh who started the inning with a walk. New Paltz doubled their lead in the second on a run by Mike Marash. Oswego cut the lead to 2-1 in the third inning on a sacrifice hit to right field. New Paltz used three hits and two runs in the fifth inning to gain some insurance runs. With one out and bases loaded, Terlecky hit an RBI single to center field to score Marsh then Alex Cadmus was walked to advance all runners and score Kevin Paino. The Hawks completed the scoring in the sixth on an RBI single to center field by Joel Judson, scoring Doug Chaputian.
Marash, Marsh and Terlekcy each had two hits to lead the Hawks. Senior Zach Potter earned his fifth win of the season on the mound as he allowed one run, seven hits, one walk and struck out 12 batters.
In game two, Oswego took the early 1-0 lead in the second inning. New Paltz tied the game in the fourth inning when Chaputian hit an RBI double down the left field line to bring home Devin Scalabrini who singled to right field. The Hawks took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning. Cadmus doubled to right field and moved to third on a wild pitch, before scoring on an error by the third baseman. Oswego plated two runs in the seventh for the 3-2 score as the Hawks were shutdown in the bottom in the inning. New Paltz registered seven hits and left eight on base, while Oswego collected four hits and left one on base. Chaputian and Judson each had two hits for the Hawks. Jonathan Shanks took the loss on the mound, allowing three runs, four hits, three walks and striking out three batters in a complete game.
New Paltz returns to action on Sunday April 20th when they host Cortland at 12pm in a doubleheader.
