Women’s Tennis Falls to St. Lawrence

CANTON, NY — The women’s tennis team traveled to St. Lawrence this afternoon and fell 8-1 to the Saints. New Paltz lost all three doubles matches and five of the six singles.
Senior Kirsten Lannon and sophomore Chelsea Hubbell defeated Dana Lim and Eri Yamakawa at No. 1 doubles 8-1, while the tandem of Casey Gilman and Stephanie Finn earned an 8-5 victory at No. 2 over Laura-Elizabeth Beirne and Lyndsey Lovinger. Teresa Rodriguez and Liz Ronty defeated New Paltz’s Kerri Serkes and Stephanie Schara at No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
In singles, Lannon held off Lim at No. 1, 6-4, 6-4, while Finn swept Beirne at the No. 2 spot, winning 6-0, 6-0. Yamakawa took the first set at No. 3 singles, but dropped the second 6-1 and fell 7-6 (2) in the tiebreak. Rodriguez and Hubbell managed to win in straight sets against Lovinger and Serkes at No. 4 and 5 singles, while New Paltz’s lone point came at the No. 6 spot where Schara defeated Mackenzie Hall, 6-4, 6-4.
New Paltz returns to action on April 9th when they host Stevens at 3:30 pm.
