Watson Selected as Assistant Coach for the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team

NEW PALTZ, NY — SUNY New Paltz Head Men’s Soccer coach Eric Watson has been selected as an Assistant Coach for the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team. The Under-23’s are training to participate in the Nordic Cup this summer, when they will gun for their 10th title in the prestigious tournament. The U-23’s serve a valuable purpose by giving players on the fringe of the Women’s national team pool a chance to keep training at a high level in the National team camps and international matches.
The team is comprised of 18 top Division I players. Watson will be assisting the team on a training trip to England March 7-15, 2008. He will primarily work with goalkeepers Kelsey Davis and Val Henderson. Davis is from Thousand Oaks, CA and attends Portland while Henderson is from Orinda, CA and a senior at UCLA. Christina DiMartino and Brittany Taylor are both from the state of NY. DiMartino grew up in Massapequa and attends UCLA and Taylor originated from Campbell, NY and is a junior at UCONN.
During the training camp, the team will play England on March 12th and 14th. The team last played on Feb. 15th against Germany at the La Manga Tournament in Spain. The team tied 1-1, giving them a draw for second place in the competition.
