Baseball Sweeps Westminster 6-4 and 10-3

FT. PIERCE, FL — The baseball team faced Westminster College this afternoon and swept the Titans 6-4 and 10-3 . The Hawks advance to 5-3 on the season and will return to action on Wednesday with a double header against Grinnell College at 11am.
SUNY New Paltz took a 6-0 lead in the first game through four innings before the Titans came back with four runs off five of their seven hits in the game during the final three innings. The Titans threatened in the bottom of the seventh, leaving runners on first and third to end the game. Jonathan Shanks earned the win for the Hawks, pitching a complete-game seven-hitter with two strikeout, one walk and four runs. Alex Cadmus led the Hawks’ 11-hit attack by going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, including one-run singles in the first and fourth innings, the latter giving the Hawks a 6-0 lead and prompting a Titan pitching change.
In the second game, the Titans scored one run in the first inning after leaving the bases loaded. After New Paltz scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning when Tyler Terlecky hit an RBI double and later scored on a passed ball, Westminster tied the game in the third inning. New Paltz broke the 2-2 tie with five runs in the third inning, highlighted by Cadmus hitting a two-run double, giving the Hawks a 7-2 lead. Westminster tallied an RBI single in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 8-3; however, the Hawks tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Joel Judson earned the win for the Hawks, pitching the first five innings with two runs off four hits, six walks and eight strikeouts.
